Rally
Obedience is the newest sport that you can participate in
with your dog. It is a combination of the Novice exercises
of formal obedience and the fun of agility.
|
The
dog and handler must complete a course that has different stations
outlining the exercise that must be performe at that particular
station. For example: |
|
Station
#1 may be
Sit - Forward. |
|
Station
#2 may be
Sit - Down - Forward. |
 |
Station
#3 may be
Left Turn - Forward. |
|
The
handler is encouraged to talk to and praise the dog during the
exercises. The dog must be under control during the routine, but
does not have to be in perfect "heel" position. |
There
are currently two organizations that offer Rally Obedience title:
AKC
(American Kennel Club - only purebred dogs may compete) and APDT
(Association of Pet Dog Trainers - all dogs, including mixed breeds,
allowed to compete). |
